Public hearing begins in N’ganj over mosque explosion

Narayanganj district administration has started a public hearing to investigate Friday night’s explosion at Pashchim Talla Baitul Salat Jame Mosque in Fatullah that left 26 people dead as of early Monday.

Starting from 10am, the hearing will continue till 4pm Monday.

The district administration earlier issued a press release in this regard.

Witnesses of the tragic explosion have been requested to take part in the hearing at the office of the additional district magistrate, Narayanganj.

At least 50 people suffered severe burn injuries in the air conditioner blasts at Pashchim Talla Baitus Salah Mosque in Narayanganj around 8.30 pm on Friday. Of them, 26 succumbed to their injuries as of Sunday night.

Narayanganj Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Arefin said a gas pipeline of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited passes under the mosque. A leakage in that pipeline accumulated gas inside the mosque which might have triggered the AC blasts as the amassed gas could not pass because the mosque windows were closed while the AC was on, he added.

13 people, who are in critical condition, are currently undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
