Transport owners said on Saturday that they would resume public transport services in Chattogram city from Sunday morning.

Chattogram Metropolitan Bus Owners’ Association President Belayet Hossain Belal said the transports under the association would start plying considering the people’s sufferings.

He, however, said the long-haul buses would not ply during the strike.

Earlier on the day, a group of transport workers took to the streets in the Tigerpass intersection and halted the movement of vehicles, including personal cars and CNG-run autorickshaws, in support of their strike.

On November 3, the government raised the prices of diesel and kerosene to Tk 80 from Tk 65 at the retail level.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said petroleum prices have been readjusted against the backdrop of the price hike of petroleum in the international market.

The bus, truck and van owners decided to go on a strike across the country from Friday over the fuel price hike.

They stopped plying vehicles demanding an increase of fares or reverse of the hike, causing immense sufferings to travellers and commuters.

Alongside, business-related people also suffered huge losses due to the strike.
