Puja mandap attacked in Chattogram

‎An attack on a Chattogram puja mandap has prompted Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council to call for a half-day hartal in the port city.

Earlier in the day, an agitated mob allegedly attacked a puja mandap protesting against the Cumilla incident.

Following the attack, Chattogram Metropolitan Puja Celebration Committee had called off the immersion of idols across the city.

On October 13, several puja mandaps were attacked after a copy of the Holy Quran was found at a mandap at Nanuar Dighi in Cumilla city, reported BBC citing Nirmal Pal, general secretary of Cumilla district Puja Udjapan Parishad.

The next day, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed in 22 districts to maintain the law and order following the incident.
