The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved 4 procurement proposals, including 3 proposals for importing a total of 80,000 metric tonnes of different types of fertilizers from different sources.
The proposals were approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal Wednesday (September 30).
The meeting was attended by members of the committee, senior secretaries of the cabinet divisions and senior officials of the concerned ministries.
After the meeting, Finance Minister and Additional Secretary to the Cabinet division Nasima Begum outlined various aspects of the approved purchase proposal.
Another purchase proposal of construction of a multi-storey residential building in Azimpur with a cost of 160 crore taka was also approved at the meeting. The total cost for the 4 approved proposals will be around 334 crore taka.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the committee approved to purchase 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertilizer in the 5th lot out of the contracted 5.50 lakh tonnes from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) of Bangladesh at a cost of 65 crore taka.
The minister further said, through state-level agreement, the purchase of 25,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation at a cost of 57.97 crore taka was also approved.
The committee also approved the purchase of 25,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from UAE's Ruwais Fertilizer Industries at a cost of 57.29 crore taka, he said.
Additional Secretary Nasima Begum said 8 purchase proposals were presented at the meeting.
However, power division secretary withdrew 3 purchase proposals as he could not be present. Those proposals may come up at the next meeting.
Before the purchase committee meeting, Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held a meeting, also chaired by Finance Minister.
That meeting approved a proposal to upgrade 87 km highway with service lines on both sides of the Dhaka-Mymensingh National Highway to the expressway.
Finance minister said, under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP), initiatives have been taken to implement it on a G-to-G (Government to Government) basis with South Korea. A total expenditure of Tk 3,353.63 crore has been estimated for the implementation of the project.
