The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved a proposal to import 50,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia and Qatar under state agreements at a cost of Taka 113.51 crore.
On Wednesday Cabinet Committee gave its consent to procure urea fertilizer at a virtual meeting. In the absence of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, who was out of the country, the meeting was chaired by Agriculture Minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque.
At the end of the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal informed journalists that a total of 4 proposals, including one variation proposal, were presented at the meeting.
Of these, 2 were from the Ministry of Industries, 1 from the Local Government Division and 1 from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. The total cost of the 4 approved proposals will cosy Taka 250.39 crore.
Additional Secretary said the proposal to import 25,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia in the second lot through an agreement at the state level in the fiscal year 2020-21 was approved at a cost of Taka 55.56 crore.
Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will procure this fertilizer from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC).
In another proposal for the same financial year, approval was given to import 25,000 metric tons of bagged prilled urea fertilizer from Qatar in the 2nd lot at a cost of Taka 56. 92 crore.
Again, BCIC will import the fertilizer from Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat).
Another proposal for a 10-storey building with two-storey basement for Research, Training and Testing Laboratory Faculty for Urban Research was also approved at the meeting. The project will be implemented by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and funded by the World Bank.
The job was awarded to Chinese State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited at a total cost of Taka 114.99 crore.
Construction of transmission for the main and ancillary distribution pipeline from Kalurghat to Patenga Booster Pump Station under the project titled “Chittagong Water Supply Development and Sanitation Project” under implementation by Chittagong WASA was also approved at the meeting.
The previous contract price was Taka 213.46 crore. However, as a result of variation, the total expenditure has increased by Taka 21.8 crore and now stands at Taka 235.35 crore.
This work will be done jointly by 3 companies: Sanaxi Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Co Ltd (SWUG), The Civil Engineers Limited (TCEL) and Falgu Sandhani Limited (FSL).
The meeting also gave policy approval to the Division of Energy and Mineral Resources to import additional Mogas (Octane 95 RON) during September-December 2020. The project will be implemented by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
