Qcoom CEO remanded afresh

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed e-commerce platform Qcoom owner and chief executive officer (CEO) Ripon Miah on one day remand in a fraud case filed with Tejgaon Industrial Police
Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shohidul Islam passed the order as police produced Ripon before the court and pleaded to place him on five-day remand in the case.

Earlier on October 4, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asheq Imam placed Ripon Miah on two-day remand in another case lodged under Digital Security Act (DSA) for embezzling money through online fraudulence.

A customer of Qcoom filed the case and detective branch (DB) of police arrested Ripon from Motijheel area on October 3.

Ripon in the primary interrogation confessed to not delivering goods of around Taka 250 crore in spite of taking the money in advance.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter at a press briefing earlier on October 4 said because of the Covid restrictions imposed by the government, people got attracted towards online shopping and different e-commerce platforms like Qcoom used this in their favour.

"They declared different offers and discounts, alluring unsuspecting customers to pay huge money in advance to get products at comparatively low price," he said.
