Noakhali Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza has punched an elderly man while distributing clothes among the poor on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
A video of the incident that took place at the municipality office Friday morning, went viral on the social media and drew criticism from netizens.
Quader Mirza, younger brother of Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, was seen in the video handing over a saree to an elderly man who wanted to change it at the moment.
The mayor became angry over the matter and punched the man on his chest. Later, he threw another saree at the man.
Quader Mirza could not be reached despite repeated calls for comments.
