RAB arrests Hizb ut-Tahrir top leader at Hazaribagh

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested one of the top leaders of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from the city's Hazaribagh area.

The arrestee was Talat Mahmud Sayen, 29, son of Nowshad Reza, a resident of Lakshmipur district.

"Talat is an active member of Hizb ut-Tahrir's Dawat and financial unit...He was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment in an Anti-Terrorism case. But he went into hiding after getting bail," said RAB-2 Assistant Director (Media) senior ASP Md Fazlul Haque.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a drive in the aforesaid area on Saturday and arrested Talat with a huge amount of books and leaflets related to extremism along with computers, mobiles and various types of equipment, he said.

"He was trying to gather other activists...so that they can distribute the leaflets and books to provoke the youngsters against the government," he added.

Talat would be handed over to the authorities concerned after necessary legal actions, he further added.
