RAB detains top leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a top leader of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

The arrestee, Md Mahamud Hasan, 30, is wanted in three cases filed under Mohammadpur and Paltan police stations. He was sentenced to two-year imprisonment in absentia.

"Acting on a tip-off, a team of the RAB-2 detained Hasan from the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Thursday afternoon," RAB-2 Senior ASP Md Fazlul Haque told BSS.

The RAB official said Hasan was arrested earlier. But, after coming out of jail on bail, he went into hiding and was carrying out militant activities.
