RAB grills 7 accused including 4 cops over Sinha killing

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has officially started remand proceedings in the murder case of Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan.

RAB took seven people, including four policemen, into custody from Cox's Bazar jail on Friday (August 14) morning for interrogation.

The Cox’s Bazar jail superintendent Mokammel Hossain confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

The four policemen, all suspended from the Teknaf Police Station, namely, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Litan Miah and constables Kamal Hossain, Abdullah Al Mamun and Safanur Karim, and three civilians- Nurul Amin, Nizam Uddin and Md Ayash, are in RAB custody.

Teknaf Police Station's withdrawn Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das, Baharchhara police outpost's Inspector Liakat Ali and Sub-Inspector (SI) Nanda Dulal Rakkhit are still in jail.

Earlier on July 31, Maj (retd) Sinha was killed at Shamlapur checkpost of Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf marine drive in Baharchara union.

On August 5, Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Teknaf against nine people including Pradeep Kumar Das and Liakat Ali.

Later, on August 6, seven of the accused surrendered and sought bail from Senior Judicial Magistrate Muhang Helal Uddin’s court but were denied bail and sent to jail.
