Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized a consignment of 13 lakh contraband yaba tablets from a fishing trawler on Sunday (Augusr 23).
“A team of RAB-15 recovered 13 lakh yaba tablets from a fishing trawler following a drive at Mazirghat area, adjacent to Cox’s Bazar town, on Sunday afternoon, Colonel Tofael Mostafa Sarwar, additional director general of the RAB said at a press briefing here today.
The estimated price of the seized drug is nearly Taka 40 crore. The RAB team also arrested two alleged yaba smugglers from the trawler.
The arrested persons are M Billal, 45, son of late Abdul Mazid, hailed from Dakshin Hazipara of Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila and M Aayas, 34, son of Basir Ahmed of Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila.
Based on information that a fishing boat entered into the Bangladesh water areas from Myanmar with a big shipment of narcotics, the RAB team led by Wing Commander Azim Ahmed took position in Teknaf area on Sunday afternoon and the team suspiciously chased the trawler and detained it at Mazirghat area, said the RAB official in the briefing.
