Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday carried out a drive and recovered a huge amount of inflammable and explosive chemicals from five shops housed in residential buildings in Tikatuli area of Old Dhaka’s Wari.
The law enforcers sealed off the shops and detained five owners and a staff member.
RAB Executive Magistrate Palash Kumar Basu confirmed the news to The Business Post.
The detainees were identified as — Yasin Scientific Company owner Md Abdus Salam, Jamuna Scientific Company owner Nur Mohammad Howlader, Shahjahan & Jashim Scientific Company owner duo Shahjahan and Jashim, Mahir International Company owner Sazzadul Hasan Masud and Modern Scientific Company employee Imran Hossain.
Ethanol, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, isopropyl alcohol, hydrochloric acid, methanol, Toluene and some other chemicals were seized in the drive, said the RAB official.
The shops housed in two buildings had been illegally storing, selling and distributing the chemicals posing a great risk to the area.
