The government has decided to suspended rail communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country to halt the spread of Covid-19 in the capital.
The suspension will remain in effect from June 23 to 30.
Confirming the matter The Business Post, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon said, “The suspension may be extended if Covid-19 situation in the country does not improve.”
However, freight trains will run remain normal and passenger train services between other districts or cities outside the purview of recently imposed movement restrictions will continue as usual.
On Monday, the government announced a strict lockdown in seven districts surrounding the capital. The districts are Manikganj, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Madaripur, Rajbari and Gopalganj.
