Railway tickets unavailable at counters till Sep 21

Bangladesh Railway has failed to provide train tickets through station counters from Saturday as per government’s directive. According to sources, tickets won’t be available until 21 Sep.

The selling of tickets was scheduled to begin from 8:00am on Saturday at all the station counters in the country. However, while talking to the passengers at Kamalapur Railway station, The Business Post found out that none of them succeeded in purchasing tickets from the counters.

The Business Post talked with the station manager of Kamalapur station Masud Sarwar on this matter. He said, “All the tickets leading up to 21 Sep have been pre-booked online. So it won’t be possible to provide tickets on counters before that.”

Train services remained suspended for more than two months in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country in March.

It has been selling tickets online only since services resumed on May 31 in limited number after the coronavirus lockdown.

Later, train operations resumed running on different routes across the country, but tickets were only available online.

The authorities are also selling tickets for half of the total seats to ensure physical distancing among the passengers.

As per the new rules, the authorities will sell 25 percent of the total seats online and the remaining 25 percent at the counters.
