A Naogaon union parishad land office employee — accused in a case under the Digital Security Act (DSA) — has died in the custody of RAB-5 after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

The 45-year-old deceased Sultana Jasmine’s only son Shahed Hossain Saikat and uncle former Naogaon Municipality councillor Nazmul Haque claimed that she died after being tortured in RAB custody.

Naogaon Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Md Faisal Bin Ahsan told Business Post that there was no complaint or case filed in this regard.

“RAB brought Sultana on the night of March 22. At that time, a mark of injury was found on her ear. After that, she was admitted to the neurosurgery department and a CT scan showed brain haemorrhage,” Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) Director FM Shamim Ahmed said.

“As her condition deteriorated, she was put on life support in the ICU. Later, she died around 9am on Friday  RMCH,” he added.

After being detained on the morning of March 22, Jasmine was charged with violating the DSA in Rajshahi for stealing money from job seekers using a Facebook account.
