The main jamaat (congregation) of Eid-ul-Fitr is scheduled to be held on Shah Makhdum Central Eidgah Maidan in the city at 8am on Eid day.

But if the inclement weather prevails, the main Eid jamaat will be held at Dargah Mosque on the same day, Islamic Foundation sources said.

Political leaders including the city mayor, parliament members and divisional and district-level high officials are likely to offer their prayers at the main Eid Jamaat.

The second and the third largest Eid jamaats will be held at Tikapara Eidgah Maidan and at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point at the same time.

Apart from this, the notable Eid-jamaats will be held at Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital campus, Rajshahi Court Eidgah, Rajshahi Stadium, Shalbagan Eidgah, New Market Jame Mosque, Police Line Math, Upashahar Eidgah Maidan and Rajarhata Jame Mosque.

Over 150 Eid jamaats are scheduled to be held at the traditional and temporary venues in the Rajshahi metropolis under the supervision of the respective Eid jamaat committees.

To make the city's Eid congregations a success, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is extending necessary cooperation to decorate 25 Eid congregations' venues.

The city corporation will decorate the entire city roads and islands with national flags and banners inscribed with "Eid-Mubarak" in Bangla and Arabic.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police and RAB have taken all-out security measures for the peaceful celebration of Eid.

Marking the celebration, special diets will be served to the inmates of different hospitals, jails and Government Shishu Sadan.

Meanwhile, above 11.84 lakh marginalised and distressed families were brought under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme in all eight districts under the Rajshahi division this year on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

Under the programme, 11,844.46 tonnes of rice were distributed among the beneficiary families in all 565 union parishads under 67 upazilas and 62 pourasabhas (municipalities) in the division.

Each of the cardholders received 10 kg of rice this time as per the list prepared earlier under the existing social safety net programme.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) in Rajshahi Shalah-Uddin-Al Wadud told BSS that the distribution of VGF rice was completed within the stipulated time so that the beneficiary poor and distressed families could celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr in a festive mood.

The district-wise breakup of the card-holding beneficiary families are: 70,475 in Rajshahi, 2,13,844 in Sirajganj, 1,67,243 in Pabna, 91,897 in Natore, 2,44,465 in Naogaon, 35,029 in Joypurhat, 1,90,362 in Chapainawabganj and 1,70,991 in Bogura.
