Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) has taken up a project titled 'flood-flow area, water reservoir conservation and compact township' in the area along the Turag in order to reduce the pressure on the capital and in an effort to build a water-centric smart city.

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed said this in parliament on Sunday in reply to a tabled query of ruling Awami League MP Benjir Ahmed.

He said that the proposed project aims to use 32 per cent of the land as a development area (residential, commercial, civic services) and 68 per cent as a conservation area (reservoir, greenery, recreational facilities and canal/river embankment).

He also said the feasibility study of the project has been completed.

“The project, if implemented, will play an effective role in reducing water and traffic congestion in the capital,” Sharif Ahmad said.

He also said that there is a plan to allocate plots and flats in the said project.

The state minister said that the National Housing Authority has visited the sites of Dhamrai, Keraniganj, Singair in Manikganj and Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj in order to take up the satellite township development project to reduce the pressure on Dhaka city.

About 7000 acres of land in that area is suitable for housing projects, he added.

“If the feasibility study proves useful, the project will be implemented with government funding,” Sharif Ahmad said.

Plots can be allotted in the said satellite cities by keeping the resources of the plots as per the planned master plan by developing the land, he added.
