RCC 3 more STS for modern waste management

The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has opened three more newly constructed Secondary Transfer Stations (STS) on Thursday, taking the number to 15 in the city.

RCC Ward Councilor Shariful Islam inaugurated the 100-foot long and 30-foot wide STS at Kasiadanga, Shalbagan and Padma Residential area as the chief guest saying the stations were constructed at a cost of around Taka 55 lakh each.

Ward Councilors Rajab Ali, Abdus Sobhan, Shahidul Islam, Touhidul Haque, Moniruzzaman Moni, Tahera Khatun and Ferdousi Begum, Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Mamun and its Deputy Chief Selim Raza were present.

Shariful Islam said they have a plan to construct 30 STSs in the city in phases to remove and manage household wastes and garbage in a modern and hygienic way.

In the first phase, sites for the construction of 12 STS have been selected and construction works of three of those are going to start within the shortest possible time.

Earlier, the city had constructed eight stations for modern waste management.

Shariful Islam asked all officials and staff of the corporation concerned to render their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to make the effort to make the city neat and clean.

"We are committed to building the city green, clean and eco-friendly within the shortest possible time as per the demand of the city residents," he said.

He added that the officials and employees who will be adjudged as good workers will be honoured and awarded to inspire others.

He also called upon all staff to chaotically motivate the people against dumping household wastes besides the roads and other public places.
