A reckless speeding bus claimed a cricketer’s life in Farmgate area of the capital on Friday night.
The deceased identified as Shahidul Islam (Nirob), 32, was a first division cricketer of Kalabagan Sports Club.
Salahuddin Mia, acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tejgaon Police station confirmed the matter.
He said a reckless speeding bus hit Shahidul's motorcycle near Farmgate foot over bridge at around 7:30pm. Shahidul and his pillion friend Afzal was severely injured in the accident.
On information, Tejgaon police rescued and rushed them to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctor declared Shahidul dead.
Besides, Afzal was admitted to the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institution.
The bus was seized but the driver managed to flee.
A case has been filed at Tejgaon police station over the incident, OC Salahuddin further said.
