Confirmed the matter on Sunday, Dr Saiful Ferdous, deputy director of the hospital, said Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) had not seen so many deaths in a single day since the detection of the first Covid-19 case in the country in March last year.
He said 12 people died while undergoing treatment at the hospital from 10:00am on Saturday to 10:00am on Sunday. Seven of them were from Chapainawabganj, one from Rajshahi, one from Naogaon, and the remaining were from the Natore district.
Eight of these patients were hospitalised with Covid-19 infection and four were undergoing treatment at the Corona Ward with Covid-like symptoms. Three of them died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he added.
At present, 207 Covid positive patients were undergoing treatment at the RMCH, Saiful Ferdous said, adding that there was no alternative but strict lockdown to reduce new infections and deaths in the division.
