Mohammad Refayet Ullah Mirda of The Daily Star and Abul Kashem of The Business Standard have been elected president and general secretary of the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) respectively for the year 2023-24.

Senior journalist Shaukat Mahmood along with two members — Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Moniruzzaman Tipu — conducted the election and announced the results on Friday.

The other elected office bearers are — Vice-President Salahuddin Bablu of SA TV, Assistant General Secretary Md Mizanur Rahman of The Daily Observer, and Finance Secretary Rahim Sheikh of The Daily Janakantha.

The elected members are Mohammad Farhad Hossain Talukder of The Business Post, Badiul Alam, Mohammad Sayful Islam, and Shah Alam Nur.

Farhad got the highest number of votes (157) in the election.

The biennial general meeting and the election for the 2023-24 term of the ERF, a platform of journalists who cover economic issues in the country, were held at its office in the city’s Paltan area.

Out of the 227 voters, some 200 individuals exercised the franchise in the polls.
