Shahed Karim alias Md Shahed, owner and chairman of the Regent Hospital, was arrested Wednesday by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in connection with two cases filed over providing fake Covid-19 test reports and embezzlement of Tk 3.68 crore.
Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem, RAB’s intelligence wing director, confirmed the matter to the Business Post, saying Shahed was arrested from Satkhira on Wednesday morning at around 5:30 am.
Earlier on 14 July, RAB also arrested Masud Parvez from Kapasia upazila of Gazipur. He is the managing director of Regent Hospital Ltd.
On the same day, a Dhaka court sent seven employees of Regent Hospital to jail after the end of their remand in the case.
On 7 July, RAB filed a case with Uttara Paschim Thana accusing Regent Hospital authorities of issuing fake coronavirus certificates. The lawsuit was filed against 17 people including Md Shahed, the chairman of Regent Group.
