Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Gias Uddin Jalali, brother-in-law of Regent group's Managing Director Masud Parvez along with 48 cheque book pages and several official seals signed by the Group Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim from the capital's Ashulia area.
During the operation carried out by RAB-1 in the Narsinghapur area of Ashulia on Thursday night, the elite force also detained his driver and confiscated his private car, laden with 2,120 pieces of yaba and 10 bottles of Phensidyl.
Lt Col Ashiq Billah, director of the law and media wing of the RAB, confirmed this information to the Business Post.
Regent Group Chairman Shahed and MD Masud Parvez have already been arrested and are in police custody.
The arrested, Regent Group MD's brother-in-law Gias Uddin Jalali, 61, is son of late Fakir Sultan Jalali of Rupsadi village under Bancharampur upazila in Brahmanbaria district, and his driver was identified as Mahmudul Hasan, 40, son of Faizul Matbor of Choto Krishnanagar of Jazira upazila in Shariatpur district.
According to RAB, they found Shahed's seals and 48 cheque book pages of Premier Bank's Garib-e-Newaz Avenue branch signed by the chairman of Regent Group and a cheque book of Dutch Bangla Bank's Pragati Sarani branch in the name of Rhythm Trading.
The RAB has filed a case in this connection with the Ashulia Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
