Rescue operation resumed around 9 am on Tuesday after last night to recover the launch morning bird that sank in the river Buriganga in Shyambazar area of the capital on Monday morning.

Members of the Fire Service, Navy and Coast Guard are participating in the rescue operation.

According to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) sources, the authority is trying to rescue the sunken ship in the traditional way.

In this method, the ship will be taken to the shore first. Attempts will be made to tow the ship from there by another ship. If anyone else is still alive, they will be rescued in the same way that a survivor was rescued last night.

Meanwhile, the rescue ship 'Pratyay' could not reach the scene. The ship collided with the Buriganga bridge at Postagola on its way from Narayanganj yesterday, causing a crack in the bridge. Authorities have stopped traffic on the bridge since the incident.

Earlier, at least 32 people were killed when a launch named ML Morning Bird sank in the Buriganga River near Shyambazar in Dhaka around 9:15 am on Monday after it was hit by another launch named MV Moyur 2. The launch ML Morning Bird was coming to Sadarghat with passengers from Munshiganj.

However, one person was rescued alive about 13 hours after the launch sank at around 10 pm. He was picked up by Coast Guard personnel after being swept away in the river. He has been admitted to the casualty ward of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital in the capital.
