Researchers of Clinical Research Organization (CRO) on Sunday submitted an application to Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) seeking approval for the clinical trial of BONGOVAX, a Covid-19 vaccine developed by Globe Biotech Ltd.
The researchers have proposed the first and second phases of the clinical trial in their proposal.
A delegation team led by the Chairman of Globe Biotech Md Haruner Rashid went to BMRC today at 11am to submit the application seeking ethical clearance for the trial of their vaccine. The application, which is about 10,000 pages long, was received by a deputy director of the BMRC.
According to the application, a team of 57 researchers will work on the experimental human trial of BONGOVAX.
The study will take place at Farabi General Hospital in Dhanmondi.
Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) on January 6 approved Globe Biotech Ltd to produce coronavirus vaccine doses aiming to conduct clinical trials.
Dr Asif Mahmud, in-charge of research and development department at Globe, said that the company will try to conduct clinical trial once the vaccines are produced.
On July 2 last year, Globe Biotech announced they were developing a Covid-19 vaccine as they had completed preliminary animal trials successfully.
On October 5, they said they had received "very promising" results from the pre-clinical trials on rabbits and mice.
Globe's vaccine was listed on the World Health Organisation (WHO) draft landscape of Covid-19 candidate vaccines on October 15.
