State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Simeen Hussain Rimi on Saturday urged to ensure the sound health of children and to ensure a better future for Bangladesh.

"The development of the country is not possible without healthy children," she said while speaking as the chief guest at a programme organised by Kapasia Upazila Family Planning Department in Kapasia, Gazipur, reports BSS.

Many expecting mothers gathered in the programme with the slogan “Nirapod Hok Protiti Prosob, Jotney Thakuk Ma o Nobojatok”, said a press release.

Rimi, also an Awami League Presidium Member, said that today's children are the future of tomorrow.

"Our children will lead the future. Healthy children will give Bangladesh a beautiful future," she added.

While giving advice on the 'Dos and Don'ts' of mothers during pregnancy, the state minister said mothers should be aware during the pregnancy.

She instructed the mothers to take care of themselves properly by wearing loose fitting clothes and taking balanced meals and drinking safe water regularly.

Highlighting the government's endeavour to better the lives of pregnant mothers in the country, she said that the government is providing an allowance of Tk 800 to mothers during their pregnancy period, which helps ensure nutritious food.

"The government will continue such assistance," she said.

She advised the pregnant mothers to go to the upazila health complex for child delivery to avoid unexpected risks.

The release added that officials of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) (Bangladesh), including Shamima Parveen, head of the UNFPA gender unit, Kapasia Upazila Nirbahi Officer AKM Lutfar Rahman, and Abdur Rahim, programme manager of the Directorate General of Family Planning, were present at the programme.
