Ringleader held with 2 associates for trafficking women to Dubai

Azam Khan,42, the ringleader of a notorious cross-border human trafficking ring involved in forcing young Bangladeshi women into prostitution in Dubai, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police. CID also arrested two of his associates.

CID's Deputy Inspector General (Organized Crime Unit) Imtiaz Ahmed confirmed the news at a press briefing at the CID headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday.

In the briefing, Imtiaz said that Azam owns four hotels in Dubai, namely hotel Fortune Royal, Fortune Grand Hotel, City Tower Hotel, and Fortune Pearl Hotel and Dance Club. Of those, the first three are four-star standard, DIG Imtiaz said.

Azam has trafficked more than a thousand women, particularly of 18 to 20 years of age, in the last eight years from Bangladesh, the DIG said.
