Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital counted eight more fatalities at its Covid-19 unit in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, taking the death toll to 116 so far this month.

Friday's death figure in the unit was five. Earlier, the number of casualties was 340 in August, 566 in July and 405 in June, health officials said.

RMCH Director Brigadier General Dr Shamim Yazdani told newsmen that three of the deceased were the residents of Rajshahi while other three were from Natore and one each from Kushtia and Chapainawabganj districts.

"Of the fresh fatalities, two tested positive for Covid-19 and six others had symptoms," he said.

Some 25 more patients were admitted to the designated Covid-19 wards of the hospital in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of admitted patients to 128, including 34 positive cases.

Seven other patients returned home from the RMCH Covid-19 unit after being cured during the time.

Yazdani said 19 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 after testing 259 samples in Rajshahi's two laboratories on Friday, showing 6.67 per cent positivity rate against 5.5 per cent on Thursday.
