Hundreds of readymade garment workers have blocked roads in Dhaka’s Uttara and Mirpur areas demanding the payment of their due wages.

Due to the blockades, traffic remained halted on the roads causing suffering for the commuters on Monday.

Intraco Design and Intraco Fashion’s workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Jashimuddin, Uttara, claiming they have two months’ wages due. Later, the police convinced them to go back to their factory.

“After owners assured that the dues will be cleared soon, the workers left the street around 1:30 pm,” said Deputy Commissioner Saiful Haque (Traffic Division-Uttara).

Meanwhile, Cotton Textile and Apparel Ltd's workers blocked Mirpur-11 road demanding their due wages of three months.

Earlier on April 23, they blocked the roads for the same demand when owners assured them it will be cleared soon. However, the dues were not paid yet and the workers took to the streets again.
