RMP attains professional success in combating crimes

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has attained professional competence towards combating different types of crimes side by side with ensuring the safety of the public in general.

"We are putting in our level best efforts of maintaining peace and tranquillity everywhere in the metropolis through people's participation," said RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique while sharing views with journalists at his office conference hall on Monday.

He said they have brought the entire metropolis under security cover by installing around 500 close circuit cameras at important points aimed at checking crimes. As a result, no significant incident of law and order has happened in the last two years.

RMP has intensified surveillance activities to protect adolescents from different types of crimes and prepared a digital database of juvenile gangs containing data of about 425 juveniles along with keeping them in close and regular monitoring aimed at eradicating their crimes.

"We have re-organised and reactivated the community policing committees coupled with infusing dynamism into the activities of bit policing to reach the police services to the people's doorsteps," he added.

Around 30,000 people were brought under the community and bit policing activities during the last two years encouraging them to stand against all sorts of crimes coupled with making the efforts of alternative dispute resolution successful.

He said their Cyber-crime unit has attained success in terms of combating crimes related to cyber-crimes in the metropolis since its inception on September 17, 2020, extending support towards the identification and arrest of criminals in connection with cyber-crimes.

Moreover, the unit has also disposed of 3,291 cases of harassment and blackmailing of women by threatening to spread their sensational videos, hacking their Facebook accounts, and sending of pornographic pictures and videos through fake messenger.

Such steps of the Cyber Crime Unit have earned appreciation and praise from a cross-section of people.

It has been working relentlessly in the field of unearthing clueless incidents, criminal identification and arresting them. Apart from this, it's sending necessary and demand-driven information to the adjacent district through proper channels.

"RMP has become service-oriented and it's putting its best efforts for the public interest," said the commissioner, adding the unit is capable of detecting the criminals through close coordination with the Police Headquarters, Special Branch and the cyber-crimes-related departments of the Criminal Investigation Department.

A digital forensic laboratory has been installed aiming at detecting the crimes being committed through digital media besides spotting the criminals. The digital laboratory has been established with the financial support of the USA.

"We are committed to ensuring public security as per the desire of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," asserted Commissioner Kalam Siddique.

A Police Freedom Fighters Memorial Museum has been opened in Rajshahi for the first time aiming at letting the present and future generations know about the greatest contribution and supreme sacrifice of the great sons of the soil during the War of Liberation.

RMP established the museum at its police line compound.
