At least seven people were killed, and eight were injured in six separate road accidents nationwide.

The first accident occurred in front of the Singra BRAC office under Ghoraghat Upazila on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway when a cattle-laden locally called votvoti (locally made vehicle) collided head-on with a passenger van, leaving a man dead on the spot, reports BSS.

The deceased was Altab Hossain, 45, son of Abdur Rahman, a resident of Shashtipara village under Hakimpur Upazila.

The critically injured six cow traders were Faruque Islam, 50, son of Late Hafizuddin; Israfil, 21, son of Nasir Uddin; Imran Mia, 40, resident of Kasba village under Birampur Upazila; Abdur Rashid, 55, son of Riazuddin; Rafiqul Islam, 40, resident of Mukundupur village and Shofiqul Islam, 33, son of Nabab Ali of Daudpur village under Nababganj Upazila.

They were rushed to the Ghoraghat Upazila Hospital.

Asaduzzaman Asad, officer-in-charge (OC) of the district's Ghoraghat police station, confirmed the incident.

In another accident, Abdus Sattar, 68, son of Rahmatullah of Velain village under Ghoraghat Upazila, died on the spot after a truck crashed him under its wheel when he was crossing the road at Horipara Bazar under the same upazila.

Meanwhile, another accident took place when a good-laden truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw in the Bejai Mour under the same upazila, leaving two people, including a woman, dead on the spot and wounding another two critically.

The dead are auto-rickshaw driver Nazrul Islam, 45, son of Khazanur Islam of South Sujapur village under Fulbari Upazila and one of its passengers, Jahanara Begum, 40, wife of Afzal Hossain, of Madanpur Sialkot village under Parbatipur Upazila.

The identity of the two injured could not be known immediately.

Fulbari Police Station OC Mostafizur Rahman said they arrested the driver and helper of the truck from the spot.

After that, a motorcyclist was killed in a road accident after being hit by a pickup van on the Sylhet-Tamabil Highway in Chiknagul Panichara area under Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet district in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased was identified as Moinul Hossain Ayani, 55, son of the late Esa member of Umanpur village under Chiknagul Union of Jaintapur Upazila of the district. He was the deputy manager (Service) of Sylhet Gas Field Limited.

Chiknagul Union Parishad Chairman Kamruzzaman Chowdhury confirmed the matter.

Police seized the pickup van from the spot, the police official added.

Consequently, a truck hit a motorcyclist in Chapainawabganj municipality on Friday.

The deceased was Jahid Hasan alias Shamsul, 45, son of Abdul Matin of Nejampur village under Nachole Upazila in Chapainawabganj district.

OC of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station, Md Mehedi Hasan, said that the accident took place at around 11:45am.

Members of the Fire Service rushed him to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Apart from that, on Thursday night, three people, including two of a family, were killed and four others injured in a collision between a private car and a cattle-laden truck in Kalihati Upazila of Tangail district.

The accident occurred at around 2:30 am in front of the Bangabandhu Textile Engineering College at Bagutia on the Tangail-Mymensingh highway, reports BSS.

The deceased were identified as Abdullah Al Akhkhor, 6; his maternal grandmother Hosne Ara, 68, and the driver of the car, Abul Hossain, 32. Akhkhor was the son of one Abdullah Al Mamun, the cultural officer of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.

Kalihati Fire Service sources said the cattle-laden truck was heading towards Dhaka from Madarganj in Jamalpur. Critically injured four people were referred to Dhaka from Tangail General Hospital.
