At least 26 teachers and students were injured in a head-on collision between a lorry and a Cox's Bazar-bound picnic bus on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in Lohagara upazila of the district on early Friday.

The bus was going on an excursion to Cox's Bazar with teachers and students of the Political Science Department of Netrakona Government College, police said.

The accident occurred when a bus of Saukhin Paribahan collided head-on with a salt-laden lorry in the Chonoti area around 5:30am, leaving 26 teachers and students critically injured, said Mohammad Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dohazari Highway police station.

Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-inspector (SI) of CMCH Police outpost said locals rushed the wounded to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) around 9:30am on Friday.

Among them, three are in serious condition.

Both the vehicles were seized but their drivers managed to flee the scene, police sources added.
