Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has voiced a note of warning to saboteurs, saying those involved in violence and arson will be brought to book whoever they are.

Addressing a view exchange with law enforcers and public representatives, held at the Rangpur Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Thursday, he added, “We, the people of Bangladesh, are surprised and shocked.

“We are puzzled by how Bengalis could do this [destruction]! Then it occurred to me that such people killed the greatest Bengali ever. They killed many of our leaders and activists. Recent incidents bring back terrible memories.”

He added, “It does not matter whoever the saboteurs are, they will not be spared. Law enforcement operations will continue until the culprits are identified. A certain quarter rampaged across the country, it was all planned.

“However, the law enforcement forces have prevented these culprits from fully realising their plans. We must remain vigilant. We are a nation of heroes. In 1971, we achieved independence with the slogan Joy Bangla.”

Addressing local Awami League leaders and activists, Asaduzzaman said, “We should not be asleep, because they will take the opportunity to invade our home and kill us. We could not do what we were supposed to do.”

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former commerce minister and Rangpur-4 lawmaker Tipu Munshi were present at the event.

Officials from the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh Army, and divisional and district level administration were also present.
