Awami League presidium member and former Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun has been shifted back to the intensive care unit (ICU) at a hospital in the capital as her health condition deteriorated once again.
Sahara Khatun’s personal secretary Mujibur Rahman confirmed the matter on Friday.
"Unable to find a clear heartbeat, doctors moved her (Sahara Khatun) back to the ICU from the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at 8 am on Friday," he said, requesting all to pray for the ailing lawmaker.
The 77-year-old politician was admitted to United Hospital in Dhaka with old age complications and symptoms like fever and allergic reactions on June 2. She had been undergoing treatment at that hospital since.
She was shifted to the ICU at the hospital on June 19 as her health condition deteriorated.
On June 21, the politician’s condition improved slightly and was moved to the HDU after a while.
Sahara Khatun has been an elected member of parliament for the Dhaka-18 seat for the last three terms.
In the 2008 Awami League-led government, she served as the home minister and then as the minister of Posts and Telecommunications.
