Saifuddahar, creator of 1st Bangla keyboard, passes away

Saifuddahar Shaheed, the creator of the first Bangla computer keyboard "Shahidlipi" passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Monday at the age of 74.

He had been suffering from various physical complications, including Alzheimer’s for several years.

Shahidlipi was developed in 1985, which was only used in Macintosh computers.

Several publications including the Tarokalok and the Daily Azad were published using this keyboard.

Saifuddahar Shaheed, a graduate in mechanical engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) had established his own company called National Computers in Dhaka. ‘Shahidlipi’ was marketed from this institution.

He migrated to United States in the early nineties.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar and Bangladesh Computer Society have expressed deep grief over the death of Saifuddahar Shahid.
