Sounding a note of warning, Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon key coordinator Sarjis Alam said action will be taken against those who triggered instability in the city’s Dhanmondi 32 area on August 15.

Addressing a press conference on the events that transpired, Sarjis said on Friday, “I am urging the students to go back to their study tables, and leave the responsibility of traffic control to professionals.”

He then pointed out, “Action will be taken against those who triggered unrest at Dhanmondi 32 on Thursday. In 2013, during Hefazat-e-Islam rallies, the Awami League used the police to start a culture of forcing people to squat while holding earlobes.

“However, some of the things that happened on August 15, including forcing people to squat while holding earlobes and mobile phone checks, are not in line with the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon purpose.”

Sarjis continued, “If someone wants to offer flowers at Dhanmondi 32 on August 15, the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon cannot prevent it. No one has the right to attack Bangabir Abdul Quader Siddiqui's car.

“If a coordinator or anyone else is involved in such incidents, they will face action or expulsion.”

Claiming that unrest is being created in the name of revolution with the help of foreign countries, Sarjis added, “The Awami League and Chhatra League may have disguised themselves to commit controversial activities centring August 15.

“We are not in favour of observing mourning day on August 15 as a national event. But if someone wants to express grief personally, they must be respected.”
