The government will provide Tk 25,000 each to Saudi-bound Bangladeshi expatriate workers for hotel quarantine.

It is considering forming a quick response team to deal with the problems faced by the migrant workers.

According to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Tk 25,000 will be sent to the bank account of each expatriate worker or their nominated representatives as quarantine expense.

In line with the guidelines issued by Saudi Arabia to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the amount will be paid to migrant workers who have either underwent or will stay in mandatory quarantine at their expense from May 20 to June 30 in the kingdom.

Expatriate workers have been asked to submit their applications from Monday in this regard, the ministry said in a press release on Sunday.

The expatriates can download the application form from the ministry’s website (www.probashi.gov.bd) or the website of Wage Earners’ Welfare Board (www.wewb.gov.bd) or the website of the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (www.bmet.gov.bd) or collect it from the expatriate welfare desk at three international airports of the country.

Applications have to be submitted to the expatriate welfare desk at the airport before departure on the day of the flight from June 7 along with other documents.

The documents include the photocopy of the smart card or immigration clearance card issued by the BMET, the first four pages of passport, visa attached to the passport, plane ticket, and hotel booking documents.

The ministry said the Saudi expatriate workers who have already left for Saudi Arabia and have completed or are completing the quarantine at their expense must submit the relevant application form by June 30 through the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, or Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah.
