SC upholds anticipatory bail to bdnews Editor-in-Chief

The Appellate Division has upheld an anticipatory bail to bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi for eight weeks in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for accumulating wealth illegally.

A three-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Senior Justice Muhammad Imman Ali, passed the orders on Monday after virtually hearing a leave to appeal filed by the ACC seeking a stay on the HC orders.

Advocate Abdur Matin Khashru stood for Toufique Imrose while Advocate Khurshid Alam represented the ACC.

On September 8, the ACC filed an appeal in the Appellate Division Chamber Court against the High Court order of anticipatory bail to bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi for eight weeks in the case.

Earlier on 26 August, the HC granted this anticipatory bail to Toufique Imrose Khalidi. A bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after hearing a bail petition.

Gulshan Anowar, Deputy Director of the ACC, filed the case on July 30.

According to the case statement, Khalidi has 42 crore taka in different bank accounts which has no legal source. He accumulated the money illegally with fake documents.
