The Appellate Division has upheld the bail of Asif Hossain, Managing Director of Mazidsons Construction Limited, in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over corruption in supplying furniture and appliances to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project (RNPP) housing project in Pabna.
A bench of the Appellate Division, headed by the Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order on Sunday after hearing a leave to appeal filed by the ACC seeking a stay on the High Court (HC) order.
Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru appeared in favor of the accused while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC in the hearing.
On October 21, the HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel granted bail to Asif Hossain, in a graft case filed by the ACC in supplying furniture and appliances at the RNPP housing project in Pabna.
Earlier on October 19, the HC ordered the authorities concerned to complete investigations into three graft cases filed over the purchase of furniture and other household items for Green City housing project under the RNPP.
It may be mentioned that an allegation of misappropriating 13.24 crore taka while purchasing furniture and other household items for Green City housing project was raised.
According to reports, each pillow bought for the housing project was shown to have cost 5,957 taka with a lifting charge of 760 taka for each pillow while an electric stove was shown to have been bought for 7,747 taka with an additional lifting charge of 6,650 taka. In addition, the purchase price of an electric kettle was shown as 5,313 taka with a lifting cost of 2,945 taka. Similarly, a room-cleaning machine was purchased at 12,018 taka with 6,650 taka spent for lifting the same.
