The Appellate Division upheld High Court's order staying trial proceedings of four sabotage cases against Former Bangladeshi prime minister and opposition leader Khaleda Zia filed with Darussalam and Jatrabari police stations.

A full bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Monday (August 18) after hearing the state's appeal.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam was present in favour of the state while Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon was present in favour of Khaleda Zia.

All the cases were filed with Darussalam police station and Jatrabari police station during the non-stop blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance in January, February and March in 2015.

Earlier on March 25, 2020, the government released the BNP chairperson, suspending her sentence for six months on humanitarian grounds considering her age as she was serving prison sentences in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case and the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
