Section 144 imposed in Chowmuhani

Administration in Chowmuhani of Begumganj upazila in Noakhali has imposed Section 144 for 12 hours in the municipality area, effective from Saturday 6:00am.

The curfew bans meetings and public gatherings in fear of spreading unrest in the municipality.

Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khan, Noakhali district commissioner, confirmed the matter.

Earlier on Friday, a man died and several others were injured in an attack by a mob of agitated protesters in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila.

The mob marched near College Road and DB Road in Begumganj on Friday afternoon and vandalized the area, according to police.

The mob carried out the attack protesting an incident of ‘hurting religious sentiment’ at Nanuar Dighi in Cumilla city on October 13.

The next day, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed in 22 districts to maintain the law and order following the incident.
