The local administration has imposed section 144 in Basurhat municipality of Companiganj upazila in Noakhali district as two factions of Awami League have announced to hold a meeting at the same time and venue in the area.

The emergency section will remain in force until 6 pm on Monday, said a notice signed by Mohamamd Ziaul Haque Mir, an executive magistrate and UNO of Companyganj upazila.

All kinds of meeting, rally and gatherings have been prohibited during this period, said the notice.

Additional police have been deployed in different parts of the municipality including Basurhat Bazar.

On Saturday, former Upazila Chairman Mizanur Rahman called a meeting at Basurhat Bazar Rupali Chattar protesting ‘falsehood against some Awami League leaders’ on Monday noon.

Later, Abdul Quader Mirza, mayor of Basurhat municipality and younger brother of AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, called another meeting at the same venue and time.

For avoiding possible clash and untoward incident, the local administration imposed a ban on public gatherings in the area.
