The police have arrested a director of the Seema Oxygen Factory in Sitakunda, Chattogram, over an explosion there on March 4 which left seven people dead and numerous others injured.
Parvez Uddin, one of the three directors of Seema Group, was arrested from GEC junction in Chittagong city on Tuesday evening, Chief Additional Inspector General of Industrial Police Md Mahabubur Rahman told the media.
After arresting Parvez, Industrial Police are conducting an operation with him to arrest the other accused, said an officer of Sitakunda police station.
On March 4, A deadly blast took place at Shema Oxygen Oxico Ltd in the Kadamrasul area of Sitakunda, leaving seven people dead and 30 others injured. The district administration formed an eight-member probe body on the same day to investigate the blast.
On March 6, Rokeya Begum, widow of one of the deceased Md Salahuddin, filed a case with Sitakunda police station accusing 16 people including the owners.
The accused in the case are — Sheema Oxygen Plant’s managing director Mamun Uddin, 55, directors Parvez Uddin, 48, and Ashraf Uddin Bappy, 42, executive director Md Kamal Uddin, manager Abdul Alim, 45, plant operator in-charge Shamsuzzaman Sikder, 62, plant operators Khurshid Alam, 50, and Selim Jahan, 58, admin officer Golam Kibria, officers Md Samiul and Shantanu Roy and supervisors Edris Ali, Sana Ullah, Siraj Uddowla, Md Rakibul and Rajib, according to the case statement.
