Seven to die for FF Atik Ullah murder

A Dhaka court today sentenced seven to death for the murder and burning the body of valiant freedom fighter and former chairman of Konda union under Keraniganj upazila, Atik Ullah Chowdhury.

The convicts are: Gulzar Hossain, Ashik, Shihab Ahmed, Ahsanul Kabir Emon, Tajul Islam, Jahangir Khan, and Rafikul Islam.

Judge Abu Jafar Md Kamruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 passed the order on Wednesday.

Earlier on November 16, a Dhaka court deferred till December 2 the delivery of the verdict of Atik Ullah Chowdhury murder case.

According to the case documents, Atik Ullah Chowdhury, also a leader of the local unit of Awami League, went missing on December 10, 2013. His partially burnt body was recovered from beside a hospital in Doleswar area in Keraniganj, the next day.

Killers, after murdering Atik Ullah Chowdhury, set his body on fire to hide his identity. But from the documents and Bank ATM card found just beside the body, Chowdhury’s family identified him.

Deceased’s son Saidur Rahman Faruk Chowdhury filed the murder case with South Keraniganj police station and police later filed a charge-sheet against eight.

The court on July 2, 2015, framed charges against the eight accused.
