Protesting students – gathering from Sunday morning in the city’s Shahbagh area as part of the movement organised by Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon – have clashed with leaders and activists of Awami League and Chhatra League.
Shahbagh witnessed chases, counter chases around 11am as a result. At that time, several cars inside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) were vandalised as well.
Leaders and activists of Awami League gathered at the Shahbagh intersection in advance on Sunday. They were shouting slogans in front of BSMMU.
Around 10:30am, a procession from Old Dhaka came to Shahbagh. Chased from that procession, Awami League activists entered the hospital. A scuffle began between the two sides.
During sporadic clashes, several vehicles parked in the hospital premises were vandalised. Meanwhile, Awami League leaders and activists who took shelter inside the hospital hurled bricks at the protesters.
