Shahed on 6-day remand in cheque fraud case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected a bail petition of Regent Hospital Chairman Shahed Karim alias Md Shahed and placed him on a six-day remand in a cheque fraud case filed with Pallabi Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masudur-Rahman passed the order after the investigation officer (IO) of the case produced Shahed before the court with a ten-day remand plea.

The lawyer of the accused submitted a bail petition and also prayed for the cancellation of the remand. After hearing both parties, the court rejected the defendant's plea and granted six days remand in this case.

Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu confirmed the information to The Business Post.

The remand was sought for the sake of a fair investigation in the case, he said.

Shahed was arrested near Labangaboti canal in Komarpur village under Satkhira’s Debhata upazila with illegal arms in a special drive carried out by RAB in Satkhira on July 15. He was reportedly trying to flee across the border to India.
