Shanto-Mariam University founder dies of Covid-19

Md Imamul Kabir Shanto, the chairman of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and Sundarbans Courier Service, has died in hospital care after being diagnosed with Covid-19 at the age of 66.

He died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at 8 am on Saturday (May 30).

Sundarbans Courier Service Vice Chairman Hafizur Rahman Pulak confirmed the matter adding that Shanto was pronounced dead at 8 am in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his ventilation system was turned off.

Shanto was taken to Labaid Hospital and later to Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital with coronavirus symptoms and from there he was admitted to CMH on May 26, he further added.

He will be buried next to his parents' grave at Banani cemetery, said Mujibur Rahman Dilu, deputy director of Shanto-Mariam Foundation.

He was also a freedom fighter.
