Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a role model for all mothers, Awami League Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Md Abdus Sabur said on Sunday.
“She is such a successful mother who also spends time with her children alongside governing the country,” Sabur, also the former president of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), said at a programme in Dhaka.
The IEB organised the event titled “The Engineers - Ratnagarbha Maa” at its auditorium to honour the mothers of engineers, according to a press release.
“The prime minister, the leader of the opposition, and the speaker of parliament in our country is also a mother. They are successful at work and family as well. Taking care of mothers ensures the progress of the nation and its lasting development,” he added.
Education Minister Dipu Moni also spoke at the event virtually.
“The contribution of mothers should be recognised. If mothers are neglected, society along with the nation is neglected,” she said.
“Women themselves are often responsible for being neglected because they endure everything from birth onwards.”
The minister said, “It is Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina who has recognised the contribution of mothers first. She has provided allowances to widows and elderly women.”
IEB President Md Nurul Huda presided over the programme where General Secretary Md Shahadat Hossain (Shiblu) delivered the welcome speech.
At the event, the IEB honoured 80 mothers of engineers who have made the highest contribution to the country’s development.
