Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been ranked 39th in the 2020 list of the world's 100 most powerful women announced by Forbes on Tuesday, featuring influential leaders from 30 countries in politics, entertainment, business and more.
Hasina, the longest-serving prime minister in the history of Bangladesh, is currently serving her fourth term, which is also her third consecutive term, after her party, Bangladesh Awami League, won 288 of the 300 parliamentary seats, Forbes wrote.
In her current term, Hasina plans to focus on issues such as food security and access to education and healthcare.
“An ongoing struggle of Hasina has been establishing a firm democracy in Bangladesh,” it added.
Women born across four generations are included in Forbes’ ranking, with 10 heads of state, 38 CEOs and five entertainers among those making the cut.
For the tenth year in a row, German Chancellor Angela Merkel took the No. 1 spot on the list, while European Central Bank chief Christine Lagarde came in second for the second straight year.
For the first time, US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris made the list - securing the No. 3 position. According to Forbes, she was "catapulted" into the list by her "rapid ascension in US politics".
