Shipbreaking yard guard dies falling from ship

A security guard of a shipbreaking yard in Sitakunda of Chattogram lost his life after a fall from a ship at the yard on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at the NB Steel Shipbreaking Yard, situated on the Faujdarhat coast of Sitakunda.

The victim, identified as Nizam Uddin, 33, hailed from the East Khaiyachara area of Baratakia in Mirsharai.

When Nizam was preparing to return home after night duty as usual, he suffered a severe injury after an accidental slip from a ship on the yard around 6am. He was immediately rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Mazaharul Islam, manager of NB Steel Shipbreaking Yard, said, "Our security guard, Nizam, sustained severe injuries as he was disembarking from a ship after completing his duty. We promptly rushed him to the hospital, but regrettably, he could not be saved. We have notified the relevant authorities and parties concerned, and we are committed to providing the deceased's family with appropriate compensation."

Inspector (Investigation) Abu Sayeed of the Sitakunda Police Station said that the victim's body has been placed in the hospital morgue, pending an autopsy.
